The Frozen Food Awards are divided into retail and foodservice categories. The highest scoring products in each category are awarded gold, silver and bronze, with the overall highest scoring products crowned Retail Product of the Year and Foodservice Product of the Year. There are discretionary awards for Innovation and the best retail and foodservice 'Free From' products.

Best New Christmas/Special Occasion/Party Product
By popular request this category is for seasonal products targeted at Christmas and parties. Sweet and savoury items are included, in fact everything from the turkey through to buffet treats.

Best New Side of Plate/Ingredient Product
For products served as an accompaniment to a meal including vegetable and potato sides. Also for products used as a base, ingredient or recipe component such a frozen herbs or pastry.

Best New Centre Plate/Main Course – meat
For all meat and poultry, products in this category may be a ready prepared main meal or component such as a burger, joint or pie.

Best New Centre Plate/Main Course – fish and seafood
For all fish and seafood, products in this category may a ready prepared main meal or fish based component such as a fish filet, frozen seafood or a pie.

Best New Pizza/Savoury Bread Product
This category is for all varieties or pizza, garlic bread and dough based products.

Best Vegetarian/Vegan/Meat Free Product
This category includes all menu items, ingredients and components for vegetarian, vegan and meat free diets.

Best New Dessert/Ice cream/Confectionery Product
As well as all desserts of all kinds this category also includes cakes, ice cream, and lollies.
